"Alive Inside: The Power of Personalized Music"
Video Presentation created by Dan Cohen, M.S.W.,
Viewing and Discussion Facilitated by Leslie Sebastian
More and more, nursing home administrators are realizing the importance of providing a person-centered long term care community that recognizes the dignity and autonomy of the individuals that reside there rather than treating them institutionally as medical patients. Music can be one of the approaches to decrease the use of antipsychotics. This presentation will teach participants how important music is to elders' lives and how it can replace many of the psychotropic medicines that are currently being prescribed. The most potent emotional response comes from the mixture of joy, gratitude and recognition of the passage of time visible on a handful of respondents' faces as they're experiencing a song from their younger days from watching this film, the participants can witness moments of musical awakenings that will motivate and encourage participants to help guide them along their culture change journey.
