“Self-Determination and Protective Oversight”
Presented by Sam Plaster, Culture Change Coordinator
Missouri Department of Health & Senior Services
Long-term care providers frequently struggle with balancing residents’ right to self-determination with their responsibility to provide protective oversight. The purpose of this program is to provide an overview of legal and regulatory requirements regarding residents’ rights and protective oversight requirements and to discuss specific areas of difficulty, including responding to demands by family members and guardians.
