“You Eat First! Personal Choice and the Dining Standards”
Presented by Susan Hessling, RD, LD and Wendy Boren, BS, RN
As a society we equate home with food. The gathering of family and friends to enjoy a quality dining experience makes up who we are socially and culturally. Without recognizing individual preferences and tastes, an important part of that experience is lost. In a setting where meal-times are acquiescent to structure, socialization, individual ability, and identity, it is vital to understand the importance of choice. For administrators and DON’s, understanding the regulations regarding person-centered dining experiences brings all parties to the table where the resident is the winner.
