"Using Dementia Care Mapping to Provide
Person-Centered Care to Individuals with Dementia"
Presented by De Minner, RN BSN
Dementia Care Mapping is an empathetic observational tool and process to understand the expressed needs of persons living with dementia. This needs-based tool helps caregivers recognize what needs each individual might be expressing and enables the long-term care community to better meet those needs. Missouri has become an epicenter in the United States for Dementia Care Mapping - in the number of trainings and in the numbers of long-term care communities participating. It is vital for nursing home administrators to understand this important aspect of providing person-centered care to individuals with dementia.
