“Communicating Bad News and Goals of Care”
Presented by Sonya Newton
Communicating health information, especially a health prognosis, is a sensitive and important aspect of long-term care. Attendees will learn appropriate methods for communicating prognosis and its uncertainty. Attendees also will learn how to set person-centered care goals for an individual’s final days. Participants will understand the benefits of implementing person-centered care plan goals. They will also learn how care plans are more than a requirement, but can be a tool to communicate a person’s wishes and how caring for people in their last days is a privilege and how helping them meet their last wishes can not only change the environment, but can have an impact on future generations.
